About

My Résumé

My name’s Alex Latchford, I’m a Computer Science student currently in my first year of University. I currently live in Nottingham, however I hail from the outskirts of London where I used to live with my family. I only moved up to Nottingham in September 2007 and having lived in London all my life it is a little shock, but its a great place and I am loving most aspects of University life.

Schooling

As I said above I am in University right now, I am studying Computing Science and loving it. I hope one to be a programmer or systems analyst so I think I am on the right course.

Computing

I work primarily with dynamic web-based applications, PHP/AJAX and the lark. I have helped out over at phpBB, answering support questions, I am now focussed on the latest release, (have been for around 2 years now), I have been testing it and reporting issues I find.

I have programmed a few applications myself, however none of them are really ready for show just yet, not quite polished off. I will set up some links when I publish these projects that I maintain.

I have been using Ubuntu Linux since about December 2005, haven’t really looked back since, wireless-networking almost got the better of me, but I managed to pull through. I am currently on the Mozilla Team, where we deal with everything to do with Mozilla based problems. This involves triaging and fixing bugs, it’s a hard job as this is a major application in the distribution, but it is rewarding as you get lots of support from everyone else in the community.

I’m currently teaching myself Python for a while now, still haven’t done anything special with it just yet, just small bug fixes and silly little tasks. I also know a few other languages, (PHP, JavaScript, VB(A)), but I don’t get to use all of them often, especially VB(A) as I don’t even have MS Office any more, but it’s the language of choice at school, thus I have been forced to use it.

Anyway, think that’s about it for now.

Thanks, Alex
